The idea

Each warehouse serves its own stores. Weeks of cover shows how long its stock will last:

Formulas

Total stock ÷ Total weekly sales
Network cover × Weekly sales − Stock

Key points

Network coverAll the warehouses together: 1,200 ÷ 300 = 4 weeks.
Units to moveWest: 4 × 100 − 200 = +200. East: 4 × 100 − 700 = −300.
Read the signPlus: it needs stock. Minus: it has spare. East sends 100 to Central, 200 to West.

Only move stock when the gap is worth the freight.

Practice

Try each one in your head first, then open the answer.

1. What are West's weeks of cover?
200 ÷ 100 = 2 weeks
2. The network has 4 weeks of cover. In D4, work out how many units West needs.
=4*C4-B4
3. Tap the warehouse that should send stock to the others.
East has 7 weeks, 300 units more than its share.
4. Moving 100 units from East to Central would cost more in freight than the margin they'd earn. What should you do?
Don't move them: send Central more from the next delivery
