The idea

Allocators group stores into grades by how fast they sell. These are each store's weekly earbud sales:

Key points

Store gradeA, B or C by how much a store sells. A stores get the most stock.
The rule here40 or more a week is A, 20 to 39 is B, under 20 is C.
Allocate by gradeEach grade gets a set amount. Here: A 30 units, B 20, C 10.

Grades make allocation quick and fair: work out each store's grade, then send that grade's amount.

Practice

Try each one in your head first, then open the answer.

1. In C2, give Toronto its grade: "A" for 40 or more a week, "B" for 20 to 39, otherwise "C".
=IFS(B2>=40,"A",B2>=20,"B",TRUE,"C")
2. In F2, count the grade A stores.
=COUNTIF(C2:C7,"A")
3. A stores get 30 units, B stores 20 and C stores 10. How many units go out in total?
2 A stores × 30 + 2 B × 20 + 2 C × 10 = 120 units
4. Tap a grade C store.
Halifax (12 a week) and Calgary (19) are both under 20: grade C.
5. Calgary sells 19 a week, just under the B line, and a new mall has just opened next to it. What would you do?
Review its grade early instead of waiting for the next regrade
