The idea

SKUs ranged is how many products a category should carry. In stock counts the ones on the shelf:

Formulas

SKUs in stock ÷ SKUs ranged × 100

Key points

In-stock %The share of the range that's actually available to buy.
Work it outDivide SKUs in stock by SKUs ranged, then multiply by 100.
Read itRetailers aim for 95% or more. Below that, shoppers find gaps and buy elsewhere.

Check in-stock % every week: it's the quickest way to spot lost sales.

Practice

Try each one in your head first, then open the answer.

1. What is the in-stock % for Cases?
32 ÷ 40 × 100 = 80%
2. In D3, work out the in-stock % for Chargers: SKUs in stock ÷ SKUs ranged, as a decimal (no × 100).

3. Tap the category with the lowest in-stock %: it loses the most sales to empty shelves.
