Example

Adding New Retail Products with INSERT INTO

INSERT INTO products (product_id, product_name, category, price, stock_count)
VALUES ('P2006', 'Yoga Mat', 'Fitness', 39.99, 25)

Result:

Step by step

  1. Start with INSERT INTO and the name of the table you want to add rows to.
    INSERT INTO products;
  2. Inside parentheses, list the columns you're providing values for, comma-separated.
    INSERT INTO products (product_id, product_name, category, price, stock_count);
  3. VALUES followed by a tuple of values - one value per listed column, in the same order.
    INSERT INTO products (product_id, product_name, category, price, stock_count)
    VALUES ('P2006', 'Yoga Mat', 'Fitness', 39.99, 25);
