That's the margin: profit divided by revenue. The brackets make the sheet work out the profit first:
=(D2-E2)/D2| Day | Product | Qty | Revenue | Cost | Profit | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | Phone case | 12 | 96 | 60 | ||
| Tue | Charger | 8 | 120 | 70 | ||
| Wed | Earbuds | 5 | 175 | 100 | ||
| Thu | Phone case | 15 | 120 | 75 | ||
| Fri | Screen guard | 20 | 100 | 55 | ||
| Total | 611 | 360 |
Key points
Part / wholeA share is a part divided by the whole: =D3/D7 is Tuesday's share of the week.
( )Brackets are worked out first: =(D2-E2)/D2 works out the profit, then divides it.
ROUND( , 2)Rounds to 2 decimal places: =ROUND(0.4583,2) shows 0.46.
Margin =(D2-E2)/D2, share =D3/D7, change =(D4-D3)/D3. Wrap any of them in ROUND(..., 2) to tidy the decimals.
Practice
1. In G2, work out Monday's margin. First the profit: revenue minus cost, in brackets (D2-E2). Then divide it by the revenue (D2).
=(D2-E2)/D22. In G3, work out Tuesday's share of the week's revenue: Tuesday's revenue (D3) divided by the week's total (D7).
=D3/D73. In G4, work out the change in revenue from Tuesday to Wednesday: (new minus old) divided by old, rounded to 2 places with ROUND.
=ROUND((D4-D3)/D3,2)4. In G4, work out Wednesday's margin: its profit divided by its revenue.
=(D4-E4)/D45. In G6, work out Friday's share of the week's revenue (the total is in D7). Leave it as a decimal.
=D6/D7Learn it by doing. This lesson is a short hands-on level on Bampaa: see it work, then build and write it yourself, with instant feedback.
